Words and Art in Motion

—-

Misunderstood

man on the train,
afraid,
misunderstood
unable to communicate

taken at face value
no one hears his inner voice
it’s not his choice to be like this
he just needs a chance to be

scream out loud
no one hears
the pain he feels
behind his fears

don’t leave me alone
with the darkness of my mind
I can’t explain the loneliness
of being misunderstood

you see me one way
I see two
call me names
that are untrue
to me, but not you

overwhelmed by my confusion
there is a collusion
I cannot breach

racism
hate-ism
signs of the cross
you see me, my skin
tattooed
you are lost in your mind,
seething with hatred,
fear of the different,
the unknown
and you make fun,
belittle to strengthen
your ignorance
